Update: Click here for a report on the Blogger Picnic!
The park that I had previously reserved was not available on July 30th, so I’ve moved the blogger picnic to Mt. Scott park, picnic area D. Here is the park on Google maps. Directions to Mt. Scott park:
From the westside:
Take Hwy 26 east through downtown Portland to I-84 east
Take I-84 east to I-205 south
Exit I-205 at SE Foster Rd, turn right at the bottom of the off-ramp
Take SE Foster Rd to SE 72nd Ave, turn left onto SE 72nd Ave.
From east county:
Take I-84 west to I-205 south
Exit I-205 at SE Foster Rd, turn right at the bottom of the off-ramp
Take SE Foster Rd to SE 72nd Ave, turn left onto SE 72nd Ave.
From Clackamas:
Take I-205 north
Exit I-205 at SE Foster Rd, turn left at the 2nd light at bottom of the off-ramp
Take SE Foster Rd to SE 72nd Ave, turn left onto SE 72nd Ave.
From Sacramento:
Take I-5 north to I-205 north
Exit I-205 at SE Foster Rd, turn left at the 2nd light at bottom of the off-ramp
Take SE Foster Rd to SE 72nd Ave, turn left onto SE 72nd Ave.
Feel free to email me (link is at the top left of this page) for any more specific info, or if you would like my phone number for more specific directions, or whatever.
The park has an indoor public pool, which is open on Saturdays from 1:00-6:30. The cost is $2.50 for little kids, $3.00 for teens, and $3.75 for adults, so bring your suits if you think you may want go in for a dip.
Plan to show up at about noon or so. I have picnic area D reserved all day, so we can goof around all we want. I have at least one fun activity planned for everyone, and I may try to get creative and plan more. I also have goodies for all the kids, and prizes for the activity winners.
I will be supplying hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, condiments, plates, cups, napkins, and utensils, as well as the barbecue stuff (like briquets and starter fluid, etc.) I would really appreciate everyone’s help with the rest of the picnic-type stuff. Here’s a list of what I was thinking:
- Potato salad
- Chips and dips
- Watermelon
- Drinks (soda, juices, bottled water, whatever)
- Anything else you desire (Gardenburgers, chicken, brats)
Please leave a comment here to indicate what you can bring (like a high-tech sign-up sheet), and also to confirm once more who is coming.

We (Hayes family, Clackamas Branch) will be attending (obviously)…
We will bring soda and chips and maybe something else that I haven’t thought up yet…
Justin had a good idea too… if someone has one of them cool Sprint phones that can send video, we
we ought to at least TRY to stream video of the picnic ot the web….
I know… I am a dork…

Ooh! Ooh! Hopefully, there’s a wi-fi hotspot near enough that we can bring a webcam and a laptop, and upload a photo every 30 seconds or so. I’ll look into that possibility soon…

I plan on being there…the bells being on are still in debate.
Justin and I both will be there until the party is pronounced dead. We are die hard kinda people. I will probably bring a dessert, as that is my specialty, but I will gladly bring anything else requested of me as well. I love to cook, so just let me know what ya need. Too bad we can’t get SlingBall there….

Stephanie you have to bring that lemon cake that you made on Sunday.
7. Stephanie5501 | July 18th, 2005 at 6:05 pm
Billy,
I take it you liked the cake? I am famous all around the world for making it you know….and we all know there is no exaggeration there because I am NEVER sarcastic. I am glad you and your family enjoyed it. It seems that everyone who tries it asks for more! I will be sure to bring it!! If you are really lucky I might even bring some of my even MORE famous truffles.

On the directions from Clackamas to the park I cant tell if it says north or south. There is a spelling error.

Thanks, Matt, I corrected the misspelling. It was really just a test to see which of my readers is the most astute. Matt, you win your choice of prizes: You can keep living under my roof rent-free for at least another five years, or I’ll buy you a candy bar next time we’re at 7-11.
Take your time deciding, there’s no rush.

Hey Bill, do we have a rough estimate head count? I want to know how many people I need to bring for. I know there will be mass hysteria if there is not enough lemon cake to go around.

I, for one, am quite excited for the picnic. I pretty much have dessert taken care of. After looking at the info on the pool I am tempted to bring my suit! It looks really fun. Ok, I will see all of you tomorrow!

oh boy, please know how much this KILLS me….
sorry i’m not gonna be there my blog friends. saw the doc today (again! this has been going on for over a MONTH now!) and the NEW diagnosis is “whooping” cought, which i was pretty sure went obsolete say, around “little women” time. but nope, here it is in my lungs, or wherever it lives. doc says it’s not a good idea for me to be around other folks, especially any kind of kids, so, out of love and respect for all of you, i’m quaranteened to the bed till monday.
please tell everyone I say hi (in between coughs) and i wish i could be there@ hope you all have a FABULOUS TIME!!! someone make sure and give me all the bloggy details!

I am crying inside…
15. Bill | July 30th, 2005 at 1:20 pm
I know! Where is everyone? Come on, people, we’re having a party here, but we need more people! It’s not too late! Show up!
16. rebecca marie | July 30th, 2005 at 6:25 pm
okay, so i didn’t want to tell you yesterday, cause once you start rescheduling based on one person, you are screwed into never finding a good time, but i had a bit of a mishap yesterday. i sort of tried to fall down my stairs. i say i “tried” and i mean it. thankfully i was unsuccessful in my attempt, or it could have been REALLY bad instead of just sort of bad. i’d rather have an *incredibly* painful ankle that i can’t stand on than a broken neck. i am soooo sorry.
