Shopping yesterday

March 4th, 2005 at 12:00pm Posted by Bill

I don’t think I’ve ever been called the brightest bulb in the box. And, I’ll be the first to admit that as I get older, I’m getting even more and more dim. So it took me quite a while to realize that some of the anonymous postings on some of the articles recently may have been from former co-workers (whom I still very much consider friends). I’m going to take a couple guesses, and I’ll address you simply by your first initial:

B: Have there been any complaints about an odor problem at your new office?

S: I know that Super Bowl Sunday was a bust, but have you had any “good luck” since?

Let me know if I’m right by posting more comments to this article, and you can still post anonymously if you like.

Now, the reason for all this is because the aforementioned B and S will remember the “gallery of scary foods” that I keep on the shelf at my desk. In fact, S even contributed a much appreciated bag of dehydrated iced tea (”Sqwincher, the activity drink! Just add 1 gallon water! Makes 1 gallon tea!”).

So aaanywaaaay… I went to Grocery Outlet yesterday morning to buy some expired Pop-Tarts. I love this store, if for no other reason than the weird foods you can find there. I snapped pictures of two different canned goods that caught my eye. I did not purchase either item.

I don’t know if I should be offended or not.
“What did you call me? Pasta what?”

Eww. “Imitation abalone” sounds bad enough.
“Prepared from giant squid” sounds even worse.

Suprisingly, they seem to like my stench around here.
I believe pasta fagioli is when two italian boys rub “noodles”.

Well, obviously you all have nothing better to do than to read this “smut” as do I. You all are a riot.

Do you mean to tell me that I am the only one on this site that eats giant squid? You guys don’t know what you are missing! It’s tentacle-licious!

ah yes, superbowl yielded slim pickins…unless you like em red necked, ignant and into ferds with lift kits whose inches exceed their IQ scores…
..and I cant quite figure out why pasta fagioli would be in the outlet? I know a few ex-navy fellas who’d love to eat a can of fagioli…or that it was possibe to imitate albacore with squid…life is sooo fantastical

Ha Ha Ha. As a proud Italian (i’m sicilian, the greezie, unethical variety wop) I feel it my duty to tell you that it is pronounced “FAH-shjool.” What I find most amusing is that someone would claim it to be either “great” or “american.” All good Italians stick to minnestrone, or wedding soup. If I ever catch an Italian eating “Great American Pasta Fagioli,” I’ll have them immediatly fit with concrete shoes. Arrivederci

That’s just great. We uncultured swine have have managed to upset probably my only worldly reader. Rebecca Marie, if we’ve offended, please accept my apologies. I would never have guessed that’s how it is pronounced, though now that I say it out loud, I know I’ve heard it before, probably on a Bugs Bunny cartoon.

    Ciao!

ha ha ha ha ha. would it help at all if i told you my marinara sauce is referred to in my house as “spaghetti sauce” and it comes in a can proudly displaying the name “HUNTS” and i get it at Winco for 0.98?

(i do make a mean alfredo, however)

Not to beat a dead horse but…
I’ll tell you who else makes a mean alfredo, two italian boys rubbing noodles. Ewwwwww.
I’m sorry but when the brand is Great American, it’s got to be pronounced FAG-e-ol-e.
